Sustainability

Overview

A parent group headed by Graeme Campbell maintains our HWPS gardens. This group aims to create and maintain a sustainable garden as a learning resource for teachers, as well as a productive play space for children where they are introduced to the concepts of biodiversity, food production, nutrient and life cycles.

Each week the Green Team (a group of students from 3 to 6) garden with Graeme. They help him plant, tend to and harvest the vegie and herb gardens in the Sustainable Area. It is lovely to watch as they are so engaged, they especially love when they can eat what they have grown. So far they have enjoyed Kale chips and Jerusalem Artichoke Soup. Yum!

If you would like to become involved in this group or ‘adopt a bed’, please email Graeme Campbell on graeme@nsji.com

Waste Stations

In an effort to reduce the amount of waste we collect at HWPS, we have taught our students to be responsible members for our environment by sorting their rubbish according to Compost food scraps, recyclable and landfill rubbish.
