Hawthorn West Primary School uses Compass as its primary channel of communication with parents. Compass is a web-based system, accessible on any modern web-browser or via an app. We provide every enrolled family with a Compass account, which can be accessed by clicking on the Compass link below.
Key uses of Compass at Hawthorn West include:
- Sending alerts and news items relating to school activities
- Monitoring attendance and entering parent approvals for absence or lateness
- Booking Parent-Teacher interviews
- Providing electronic consent and payment for events, activities and camps
- Accessing student reports
- Making school payments
- Ordering school photos
- Accessing key school documentation.
At Hawthorn West Primary School we are very fortunate to have strong community involvement in school activities and events. Many parents volunteer to assist in classrooms, or with camps, excursions and sporting events. We value the ongoing support that our parents provide to help with the running of school programs. Please access your Compass account for further information about the process of becoming a Parent Helper at HWPS.
Working With Children Check (WWCC)
The WWC Check is a minimum checking standard set by the Working with Children Act 2005 for those who work with children, either on a paid or voluntary basis.
All parent helpers in the school, as well as those attending sporting events, excursions and camps, are now required to have a current Volunteer Working with Children Check and provide the details to our office.
The application process is available online. For more information, or to apply, click here.
Lunch orders will be provided on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Orders need to be placed online by 8:30am for lunches required that day.
The school uniform is available from PSW, 12 Strathalbyn Street, East Kew, Victoria, 3102.
Second Hand uniform items are now stored in the cupboard at the end of the Western corridor opposite the Lost Property cupboard. You are welcome to purchase items of second hand clothing for a gold coin donation per item. Please help keep this cupboard neat & tidy.

Each term at Hawthorn West Primary, we have a number of extra-curricular programs that we offer our students before & after school. All queries & registrations should be directed to them.
Our school is proud to announce we are an eSmart school.
Since we first registered with the program, we have introduced many new policies and activities to improve the way our school manages cybersafety, bullying and cyberbullying.
We feel confident our students, staff and the wider school community are now well supported to be smart, safe and responsible users of digital technology.
We encourage everyone in the school community to continue to uphold and promote eSmart behaviours, at school and at home. If you are aware of any incidents of bullying, cyberbullying or risky online behaviour, please contact the Principal.
