Students residing within our school zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address.
Our school manages enrolments using the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and may enrol at another school, if there are available places.

Foundation 2026 Information
The Department of Education has released the statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline for the 2026 school year.
The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Foundation (Prep) at a Victorian government primary school, including Hawthorn West Primary Schoo. The timeline also applies to online enrolment.
All government primary schools will follow the timeline in 2025 to support Foundation (Prep) enrolments for the 2026 school year.

You will be able to apply to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) 2026 at Hawthorn West from 22 April 2025.
What you need to do:
- To book a school tour follow the link on this website. At the tour you will learn more about our school and the enrolment application process.
- Download the Foundation (Prep) enrolment information pack from Enrolling in Foundation (Prep) (available by 22 April 2025).
- Submit your online application for Foundation (Prep) by Friday 25 July 2025.
- You will be notified of the outcome of your application between Monday 28 July and Friday 8 August 2025. If you receive an enrolment offer, you should respond to the offer on VicStudents by Friday 22 August 2025.
- Take part in enrolment information and transition sessions during Term 4, 2025.
- Prepare your child to start Foundation (Prep) from Wednesday 28 January 2026.
Uniform
All students at Hawthorn West Primary School wear school uniform. The uniform is designed to be practical, affordable and ensure that all students feel included.

The school also has a significant collection of second hand uniform, which is in good condition and very affordable.
Out of School Hours Program
The Out of School Hours Program at Hawthorn West Primary School is operated by Teamkids. Teamkids offer before care from 7.00 am and after school care until 6.00pm. They also offer a varied and extensive Holiday Care Program, which is also available on Curriculum Days. The program is inclusive and highly engaging.
